A famous instrument in the film world..... abused.

Paul Thomson leant over the sound board of this large concert grand piano and literally plucked and picked his nails and fingers into a bloody bruised mess. Coupled with Spitfire's ability to produce and curate, samples that sparkle with life, whilst being able assemble and script an instrument that just works "out of the box". The Plucked Piano module is a must have for any respectable composer in need of something "different".

Spitfire’s Definitive Range endeavours to offer the world a one-stop shop for classic and esoteric instruments played by the greats. As all these instruments are recorded in situ, in the same room, they’re designed to lock together sonically whether it be some timpani from the percussion range coupled with your Sable libraries. Or indeed a more curious band made up of the HG20, a plucked piano and a harp, it is designed to sound like they’re together in the same room. We provide a series of fantastic mixing options that allow you to dry stuff up or make it more ambient should you so wish, whilst preserving the acoustic integrity and perspective of a slavishly recalled microphone set up and room configuration. The instruments are all deep sampled but designed to play easily out-of-the-box, with easy integration into larger arrangements and templates without risk of demanding too much from your system resources. As composers we’re always on that quest to find a “lead” string instrument that does the job of a piano, harp, or guitar without sounding like one, without having the stereotypical association. Or indeed that can play like a dulcimer or cimbalom, but doesn’t have the geographical connection or insinuation. So spitfire took quarter of a million pounds worth of concert grand heard on countless film, scores from Harry Potter to Inception, and... well, we plucked it.

We’ve sampled the full range of the piano diatonically with two pluckung styles; finger pad and nail with a selection of mic positions for you to mix to get up front and personal. Or a more contextual perspective that will mix seemlessly in with your Albion and BML ranges of orchestral tools. What’s more we’ve included both direct and tape signals for if you’d prefer pristine and clean to that rounded top and tidy bottom of tape!

In addition to this we've added some amazing synth patches designed by Paul Thomson and derived totally from the plucked piano sessions, to provide your arsenal with some welcome moments of inspiration.

GUI

We like instruments that just open and play. So we have worked for many years to create a simple to use and uniform GUI so you learn one, you learn them all. With improvements being made constantly we frequently update the whole range to maintain uniformity in our interfaces across our entire range.

GENERAL CONTROLS PANEL

A deeper but still simple UI panel that allows you to tweak the general settings. How many round robins you would like and how you would like them to behave. How would you like memory to be organised alongside pitch options and how velocity works.

MERCURY SYNTH

The mercury synth is the front end for all of our steam punked, sound designed and warped section of any library. It is an ingenious user interface that allows you to have instant fun without having to roll up your sleeves and go under the Kontakt hood. All of the controls are assignable to your control surface giving you the immediate ability to make our sounds your own.
