Main Features: Realtime Control There are many ways to control the many functions of CH-Ensemble Strings. The minimum requirement is a MIDI - keyboard and a computer. You can draw all MIDI CC data in your DAW. However, a set of hardware faders and pedals helps to achieve a good realtime performance. Beside that, there are a bunch of cool controllers to make a realtime performance fun. Based on Hexlers TouchOSC, I programmed a Real Time Controller for iPad. Its not just fun to edit each and every function in CH-Ensemble Strings from your iPad, the biggest benefit is, you can easily record the edits directly into your DAW. Instead of fiddling with midi CCs in your sequencer, just press record and move the knobs and faders on your iPad/iPhone to record the controller movements with your sequence. TouchOSC Realtime Controller for iPad Leap Motion & GECO Midi The Leap Motion is an inexpensive sensor, which can be used in combination with the GECO midi app to control multiple MIDI CCs at once with intuitive gestures of the left hand while playing the notes with the right hand. Here you see me controlling CH-Orchestral Brass with the Leap Motion. It works the same way with CH-Solo Violin Bernd Keul playing the CH-Solo Violin with the Leap Motion and GECO Midi Watch Berthold Matschat in a realtime performance with CH-Solo Violin using various hardware MIDI Controllers. Unlike when recording a group of players simultaneously, we had perfect control over tuning, timing and character of each individual player in the ensemble. These ensemble instruments are completely free of any players performance errors that plague many ensemble string libraries. The samples have been carefully detuned, time shifted, positioned in the stereo field and mixed down to a 24 bit stereo mix. This surgically detailed production process has resulted in a warm and rich symphonic string sound. Two different section sizes have been created: „Full“ and „Small“ ensemble. Also this method of mixing an ensemble from single solo instruments has allowed us to tailor a huge range of articulations which actually haven’t been recorded. For example, the Pizzicato and Col Legno articulations are available in two versions: “Loose” and “Tight”, which have been achieved by shifting the timing of each individual samples in the ensemble. Some cool mixing tricks provide unusual but useful articulations like: Cluster Clouds, Octaves, Repetitions and Runs. There’s also a complete construction set of designed Sound FX.
